Lagnaha is a great place to rest and relax and to explore and experience a little of Scotland's Great Outdoors
Please do enjoy:
Lagnaha is home to a small flock of Shetland ewes and Castlemilk Moorit cross sheep. These small, hardy representatives of the northern primitive breeds give us a wonderful supply of soft, supple, light and breathable wool yarn. We retain the original natural moorit red, brown-black and light colours of the wool to knit exquisite shawls, jumpers and other year-round sustainable apparel.
Cantalou, Roe Liwa and Rais are Lagnaha's three horses. Although they originate from much sunnier climes (Cantalou is a veteran French Carmargue and the "boys" are Arabians) these equine companions have adapted well to Scottish weather and enjoy their times out on hacks, in the fields and overlooking the goings-on at the farm from their covered stable block.
In, on and above the land at Lagnaha we regularly see all of the wonderful wildlife that Scotland is renowned for. We have resident barn owls, swallows and bats along with a truly wide variety of birdlife. Red deer and stags come down from the forest and delight us with their presence, - especially in the rutting season! If you are lucky you will also spot pine martins, otters or a golden eagle soaring overhead.
In 2022, we started our planting of native Scottish shrubs and wild flowers on the land. We aim to provide an area which includes a wide variety of native Scottish plants and trees many of which , but not all, may be found in our woodland and pastures as well as outwith Lagnaha. We are integrating living willow structures for rest, recreation and wildlife viewing points. And a natural horse exercise area for the horses to enjoy alone or with a rider :-) is in development.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Lagnaha is very much part of the local history and the present day environment. We believe in Lagnaha being connected as much as possilbe with nature and that this be shared with all our visitors.
As part of this philosophy we have always wished to assist people enjoying nature and travelling without vehicles, whether on foot, by cycle or on horseback. Although we do not operate a commercial campsite, we will try to accommodate such visitors overnight with space for a tent. There will be fresh water, toilet and shower facilities, although the water may not be hot.
We cannot take advance bookings for tents but if you wish to stay, please email or telephone not earlier than the day before you intend to arrive.
We will not charge a fee for such accommodation but we will expect visitors to offer a contribution towards a local cause.
THE FORMER COMMERCIAL CAMPSITE IS NOW CLOSED
We have relinquished our registration as a Camping and Caravanning Club certificated site
